Thanksgiving Turkey Cookies Gone Kawaii!

Cookie burnout gets the best of us sometimes, but thankfully Thanksgiving and the lack of turkey cookies on my blog inspired me to whip up royal icing once again.

While turkeys aren’t the cutest of creatures, but all things kawaii must be cute, so I used my trusty sprinkles, wide-set candy bead eyes, and the most common cookie cutter around to make these ultra-cute gobblers.

Bonus! The turkey head and tail can be decorated simultaneously, so these cookies come together fast!

Speediness is quite helpful with November flying by like an autumn breeze!

Double bonus! They’re double decker!

These quirky kawaii turkey cookies are made with a small and medium-sized circle cookies and thus bring some extra nummy-ness!

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 20 second icing, Americolor Chocolate Brown
  • 20 second icing, Americolor Sky Blue
  • 20 second icing, Americolor Orange
  • Stiff icing, Americolor Super Red
  • Heart sprinkles
  • Black candy beads
  • Toothpick

Let’s roll! Fill the small turkey head cookies with brown icing and while wet, drop on two candy beads for eyes and a yellow heart sprinkle for a beak.

For the turkey tail, fill with more chocolate brown and while still wet, pipe a blue circle near the outside edge of the icing and then an orange circle set slightly inside the blue circle.

Again, while still wet, place a toothpick near the outside edge of the brown frosting and pull towards the center. Repeat all the way around the cookie.

Once the icing is fully dry, add a little extra turkey detail by piping a waddle with red icing.

If you are having trouble getting the right shape for the waddle, use a toothpick to wiggle the icing around.

Add a dab of icing on the back of the turkey head cookie and gently press onto the tail cookie. After 30 minutes or so, the turkey cookie will be ready to go!

And there it is!

Double decker, quirky, kawaii turkey cookies!
